This Used to be My Playground
Ahhhh yessssssss...that depressing tune of Madonna’s that accompanied A League of Their Own. My recent play date in Redbank lead me to such a song. On Saturday evening, my siblings, Jada, and I (minus the big bro in TX) gathered and played “tennis”. Now I use the term tennis very loosely - hence the quotation marks. My tennis skills are set somewhere in the vicinity of -45. Yes, I suck. Terribly. Daniel and Mary have got game though. My main challenge is keeping the ball in the boundary lines. It reminded me that I am not athletic AT ALL. We had a blast though. And now for the playground tie-in: after tennis, I proceeded to the playground where Raven and her friend were playing. I can tell you that kids today have it M-A-D-E. This playground was fantastical. It had a bar with a handle that took you from one side to the other (imagine me holding on and pulling my knees to my chest while singing the MacGyver themesong). It was a friggin’ blast. Then I went down two awesome slides. One was a twirly one so there was some major static buildup.
I finally coerced Daniel, Mary, and Jada to join me on the playground. Our excitement got the other kids on the playground excited and soon it was a playground frenzy. I think we showed those kids how to have some real fun! We had slide races and a balance-off to see who could stay on a shaky wooden-thingy the longest. One child, dubbed Spider-Man, was working out his balance issues barefoot. Good times, I tell ya! So, visit your local playground ASAP and have some fun!
